CD Projekt Red has finally released some Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage. The highly anticipated title’s gameplay was released after a mysterious live stream appeared on Twitch yesterday.
The gameplay video that was released was the same one shown to industry professionals at E3. Until the release of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage, the most we’ve seen of it was a debut trailer at the end of Microsoft’s Xbox conference at E3 2018.
Since then, the gaming world has been pining for some actual walkthrough gameplay. The extensive demo covers everything from character creation, upgrades, first-person combat, indoor environments, city streets driving and dialogue mechanics. It’s seriously far more than we could have asked for and gives some great insight into the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer
In a statement hidden in a frame at the end of the video and transcribed by a user on Reddit, the CD Projekt Red team explained it’s hesitation to show the public their labours.
Sorry to have kept you waiting for this for so long! Did you like what you saw? Because for us, the fact that we’re finally showing you Cyberpunk 2077 is HUGE.
Please go to our forums, Twitter, Facebook, Discord, and do tell what you think. Is the game world how you imagined? Do you see what we meant by ‘immersion’ when we talked about CP2077 being an FPP RPG? How does our vision of ‘cyberpunk by day’ make you feel? We really want to know.
According to CD Projekt Red, it was hesitant to show the game to broader audiences for fear that it may not be ready. Showing gameplay also had the potential to give fans expectations that may not have been able to meet.
CD Projekt Red eventually decided to release the gameplay as it stands today, with the caveat that it may change before release.
What gave us that extra confidence to show you a work in progress game?
Good initial feedback from people who are accustomed to see games at various stages of development. What they told us (and they told us they really liked what they saw) gave us the boost we needed to show the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 to the most passionate and insightful audience—you.
So… here’s what Cyberpunk 2077 looks like today (or rather looked like when we recorded the video). We sincerely hope you liked it. Again, thank you for your patience and all the thoughts you shared with us.
Considering how polished this demo looks, it’s mindboggling that the team were hesitant to share.
Let’s not forget, this is the same studio that gave us the multi-award winning The Witcher 3.
The hype levels just shot through the roof after watching this but judge for yourself. Go watch it now. And don’t forget to breathe.
