The Boomsday Project is HearthStone’s next expansion

Blizzard has announced HearthStone’s next expansion today; The Boomsday Project. Launching next month, The Boomsday Project stars the infamous Dr Boom.

Dr Boom’s experiments are the basis of The Boomsday Project which includes 135 brand-new cards, a new keyword, Project cards and ΩMEGA cards.

Five cards from the expansion have been revealed so far; Biology Project, Omega Defender, Spider Bomb and two legendaries, Myra’s Unstable Element and Electra Stormsurge.

These cards are examples of all the new mechanics included in The Boomsday Project which looks to be the biggest shakeup for HearthStone in a while.

The Boomsday Project

Projects are spells that appear to benefit both players, however, things may not always turn out expected. ΩMEGA cards are special cards that activate immensely powerful effects when played at 10 mana crystals

For example, the Omega Defender is a Taunt minion that when played at 10 mana crystals, gains 10 attack. It’s clear that ΩMEGA cards are going to make big changes to the meta.

The brand-new keyword, Magnetic, allows players to construct amalgamated mechs by combining their attack, health and abilities. The Magnetic card revealed today is Spider Bomb, a 2/2 minion with Deathrattle: Destroy a Random Enemy Minion.

The Puzzle Lab

In addition to the 135 new cards, new keyword and new mechanics, The Boomsday Project will include new single-player content; The Puzzle Lab. Coming two weeks after the release of The Boomsday Project, The Puzzle Lab introduces all-new challenges for players.

It will include over 100 unique challenges for players to attempt to solve and successful players will be able to challenge Dr Boom himself.

The Puzzle Lab will include puzzles that require players to deal Lethal damage on specific board states as well as Survival puzzles which test their ability to stay alive when the odds are stacked against them.

More information on The Puzzle Lab will be released at a later date.

According to Blizzard;

Dr Boom has built a complex of hidden laboratories in the ever-churning Netherstorm, where he and his colourful crew of renegade researchers are hard at work on all manner of ill-advised scientific endeavours.

Welcome to Boomsday

Included in The Boomsday Project will be nine new Legendary Spells in addition to Projects, Magnetic cards and ΩMEGA cards.

Players can pre-purchase The Boomsday Project card packs from now until launch which includes a 50-card pack and an 80-card pack. The 50-card pack includes one free golden Legendary and the Mecha-Jaraxxus card back and the 80-card pack includes a free golden Legendary, as well as the Mecha-Jaraxxus Warlock Hero, in addition to the Mecha-Jaraxxus card back.
