After nearly 24-hours, Bethesda finally revealed what it was teasing on Twitch and social media. A brand-new game called Fallout 76 has been announced, but beyond that, it’s hard to know what to expect.
The trailer, set to “Take me home, Country Roads” by John Denver shows the insides of Vault 76 after something called Reclamation Day has taken place.
The main character, wearing a shiny Vault 76 jumpsuit, straps on a Pip-Boy and appears to head into the Wasteland. Judging by the choice of song, it might be that Fallout 76 will be set in West Virginia, though having seen none of the Wasteland it’s hard to know.
What is certain is that Fallout 76 will lean heavily in Americana, with multiple references to the founding of the United States found in the trailer. From the Vault’s number, through to a notice that commemorates the dates 1776-2076.
Vault 76 is also apparently the official Vault of the tricentennial. In the Fallout universe, The Great War started in 2077 and in the beginning of the trailer we see that the date is October 27, 2102. This is much earlier than any other game in the Fallout universe.
Back in early May, a poster on 4Chan claimed knowledge of a game called Fallout 76. The poster said that it was set alongside a highway and that it was a game like Rust.
Rust is a clone of ARMA and those games, which in turn inspired the current Battle Royale games. Could Fallout 76 be an online title in which players have to team up and fight against each other to survive in the Wasteland?
Reclamation Day could refer to the citizens of Vault 76 setting back out into the Wasteland to reclaim the USA. This would fit into the idea that this is a survival/building type game. Based on the visuals, Fallout 76 looks to be developed using the exact same engine as Fallout 4 so there’s a strong chance the building mechanics from that game will appear.

According to sources, Kotaku is claiming that Fallout 76 is an online game and is being developed at both Bethesda Game Studios in Maryland and Austin. The Autin team is formerly Battlecry Studios.
