Rise Nation wins CWL Seattle Open, Championship to be held in Columbus, Ohio this August

Over this past weekend, the Call of Duty World Championship Seattle Open was held at CenturyLink Field Event Center. The competition was held over three days and saw a dramatic win for Rise Nation.

After finding themselves in the Losers Bracket, Rise Nation made an historic run back to the back to the Grand Final match against Team Evil Geniuses. It was especially exciting given the Seattle Open was the first ever event held in the Pacific Northwestern, United States.

The teams played Call of Duty: WWII on PlayStation 4.

Rise Nation CWL Championship

After Rise Nation managed an incredible come-from-behind win, Team Evil Geniuses placed second with eUnited, and Echo Fox rounding out the top four. 

The final standings after the three days of competition were;

  • 1st – Rise Nation
  • 2nd – Evil Geniuses
  • 3rd – eUnited
  • 4th – Echo Fox
  • 5th/6th – Team Kaliber / Ghost Gaming
  • 7th/8th – Red Reserve / Luminosity

As winners of the CWL Seattle Open, Rise Nation will be immortalised at a future CWL event in the G FUEL Hall of Champions. In addition to Rise Nation taking out the top spot, Rise Nation’s Pierce “Gunless” Hillman was crowned ASTRO Gaming CWL MVP of the tournament.

Columbus, Ohio Championship

It was announced at the CWL Seattle Open that the 2018 CWL Championship will be held in Columbus, Ohio in August. The event will be presented by PlayStation 4 with four days of competition. The first two days will be broadcast live from the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

The second two days will take place at Nationwide Arena and will include $4.2 million USD in prize money.

Rob Kostich, EVP and general manager of Call of Duty, Activision said;

We’re only half-way through the season and already it’s been an incredible year for the CWL.  Not only are teams competing for over $4 million USD this season, which has raised the stakes for everyone, but the action at every event has been amazing

The CWL continues to grow and that’s thanks to the greatest community of players and fans in the world.  We can’t wait to see what unfolds as we head to Columbus this August.

The next CWL Open event will take place in Anaheim on June 15-17.

The CWL Championship in Columbus will take place from August 15-19.
