Watch Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Boot Speeds compared on Wii U and Switch

I’ve been playing Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on Switch lately, expect my review next week, and so it felt like a perfect opportunity to compare the Switch and Wii U versions.

What I’ve done in this video is compare the boot speeds of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on the two consoles.  The timer begins as I press the button on the controller to start the game and ends when the menu screen appears.

Both versions of the game were installed on the internal memory of the respective console and were updated to the most recent version.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Switch vs. Wii U

It should be also noted that Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Switch is only 6.6GB whereas the Wii U version is 11GB.

The Wii U version also runs natively at 720p while Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Switch is native at 1080p.

In the test I ran, from the Wii U menu to the title screen, it took 36 seconds. This felt like an insanely long amount of time. It was especially long considering it took Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Switch 15 seconds to do the same thing.

The Wii U was never the fastest console around, but when comparing how long it takes this game to boot on Wii U vs. Switch it seems downright glacial.

I’ve also run a few tests with other loading times for Tropical Freeze, so keep an eye out for those too.

Make sure you keep a look out for my review next week too.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Switch will be available on May 4, 2018.
