SecretLab Magnus Pro XL Review: Defying expectations

I’ve always wanted to build a dream desk setup, and moving into my new home office gave me the perfect excuse to finally make it happen. The centerpiece? The Secretlab Magnus Pro XL in White—a desk that not only fits my white-themed aesthetic but also promised to revolutionize my workspace. Secretlab provided the Magnus Pro XL, the cable management bundle, the heavy duty monitor arm (which I wish came in white), the headphone hanger, the Premium PC Mount, and the Ash Gray Magpad for this review. After over a month of daily use, I can confidently say this desk has set a new standard for my workflow and comfort.

Unboxing was a spectacle. The Magnus Pro XL arrived in two massive boxes, one for the tabletop and one for the mechanical legs. Each accessory, from the monitor arm to the cable bundle, came in its own stylish container. The packaging screamed luxury, but also left me with a mountain of cardboard—definitely plan for a trip to the recycling center. Assembly was straightforward thanks to clear instructions and the included toolkit, though flipping the desk upright is a two-person job if you value your back and your flooring. I really like that almost everything comes pre-assembled so you literally are just plugging pieces together and no complicated power boxes and cables to figure out.

Once everything was set up, I stood back and admired the result. The desk is a showstopper. The white finish is crisp, luminous, and far more resistant to fingerprints than I expected. The integrated control panel sits flush on the edge, with tactile buttons and a sharp digital display. In my new office, this isn’t just a desk—it’s a statement piece that elevates the entire room. Build quality is equally impressive. The powder-coated steel frame feels solid and dependable, supporting up to 120kg without issue. Adjusting the height is smooth and whisper-quiet, ranging from 650mm to 1250mm. Even at full extension, the desk remains rock solid, with only the faintest wobble that never interferes with typing or working. Anti-collision detection adds peace of mind, especially if you tend to stash things under your desk.

For the desktop, I chose the Ash Gray Magpad. It’s a smarter, more durable choice than microsuede: easy to clean and resistant to wear. Secretlab offers plenty of Magpad designs, so you can swap them out for a fresh look whenever you like. The magnetic underside keeps it firmly in place and turns the desk surface into one giant, smooth mousepad.

Cable management is where the Magnus Pro XL truly shines. A full-length hinged rear cover hides a cavernous tray that swallows every cable with ease, and pairing it with the cable management bundle—magnetic anchors, sheaths, and straps—suddenly makes even the messiest setup look pristine. This is genius for those of us who have neither the inclination or time to obsess over cable management.

Tying this all together(pun intended) is the integrated mains power outlet inside the tray. Just plug in your power strip, then connect the desk itself to the wall. All your devices are powered and hidden, keeping the floor clear and the desktop spotless. Compared to desks with a single cable grommet or an aftermarket tray, this is a complete game-changer.

I’m especially impressed by the nine metallic pucks included in the accessories bundle. Each has a strong magnet inside, snapping onto the desk to hold cables exactly where you want them—no slipping, no clutter. It’s such a simple idea, but it’s revolutionized my daily routine. My desk is now organized, cables are always in reach, and I don’t waste time untangling cords anymore.

The heavy-duty monitor arm was easy to install and holds my ultrawide securely, with cable routing that hides wires completely. While I wish it came in white, the black is subtle enough not to spoil the look. Secretlab offers single, dual, and even four-monitor arm options, so you can scale your setup however you like. The clamp mechanism is secure and flexible, whether attaching to the desk directly or to the optional Desk Riser. The magnetic headphone hanger is another clever touch, keeping my gaming headset and IEMs off the desktop and always within reach.

One accessory I especially appreciate is the Premium PC Mount. It’s perfect for hiding my small form factor PC under the desk, freeing up even more surface area on the desk and keeping the setup clean. The mount can hold cases up to 25kg (about 55 pounds), and once installed, my PC feels completely secure. Just be mindful of the desk’s height settings—never drop it below 78cm with the mount attached, or you risk damaging your PC and the floor.

Of course, no setup is perfect. For all its strengths, there are a few things I wish the Magnus Pro XL offered. There’s no smartphone app or voice assistant integration, features some premium standing desks now include. An automated timer to remind me to stand at set intervals would also help encourage better habits. Given its size and weight, optional castor wheels would make repositioning far easier. And I’d love to see a matching under-desk drawer system, similar to the PC mount, for added storage.

Lastly, we need to to talk pricing, because this setup is a serious investment. The Magnus Pro XL itself retails for around $1,499 AUD. The cable management bundle adds $79, the heavy duty monitor arm is $479, the headphone hanger is $39, the Premium PC Mount is $119, and the Magpad is $139. All up, you’re looking at roughly $2,350 AUD for the full setup I’m using. That’s before you add any extras like RGB lighting or additional accessories. It’s a lot, but the quality and engineering justify the spend if you’re after a high-end, clutter-free workspace.

After a month of daily use, I’m convinced: the Secretlab Magnus Pro XL has completely transformed my workflow. I now stand for about an hour, three times a day, thanks to the smooth electric lift and custom presets. The difference in posture and energy is real, and the desk feels rock solid at every height. The build quality, cable management, and modular accessories are second to none. Yes, it’s heavy, the packaging is excessive, and some extras are pricey, but the overall experience is worth every dollar. I’m confident this desk will last years and adapt as my needs evolve.

If you want a foundation for a truly next-level gaming or productivity setup, the Magnus Pro XL is an investment that pays off every single day.
