Kindle (11th Gen) Review – The Reader

I adore my Kindle. I was gifted a 10th-generation Kindle for Christmas and it reignited my love of reading. When I was younger, I would absolutely devour books but as a got older and had less free time, reading fell by the wayside. Eventually, when I was living in sharehouses or small one-bedroom apartments, storage space was at a premium, so books were the last thing on my mind.

Enter the Kindle. Look, I know there are purists who insist on reading books printed on dead trees but for me, if my only option is to read “actual” books, I’m probably going to pass. The Kindle is just SO convenient, so user-friendly, so easy to use, not to mention you can read it in the dark, that just by having one I am more inclined to read.

People are probably going to argue about books vs ebooks forever, mostly because people love to argue but that’s not why I’m here. I’m here to tell you about the Kindle 11th Gen and why I love it.

Kindle 11th Gen Review

Right off the bat, the Kindle 11th Gen looks and feels different to the 10th Gen. It’s slightly heavier, and has a larger screen and a smaller overall footprint. It feels better in your hand, weightier and easier to hold onto. Best of all, on the bottom of the Kindle 11th Gen is a USB-C charging port, replacing the micro-USB port on the 10th Gen. My Kindle 10th Gen was probably the very last device I had that still used micro-USB so to be able to finally put those cords to bed for good feels great.

In addition to the 11th Gen’s screen being slightly larger, the 17 LEDs (up from 5 on the 10th Gen) make for a much nicer and smoother reading experience, especially at night. These 17 LEDs allow the Kindle 11th Gen to display in adjustable warm light, making nighttime reads far easier on the eyes. While the 11th Gen and 10th Gen have the exact same resolution, the adjustable warm light really makes a difference and improves the reading experience.

Another area where the 11th Gen absolutely smokes the 10th Gen is performance. The 11th is much faster and performs far better. Booting up, navigating the store, turning pages, highlighting passages and switching between menus are all vastly improved on the 11th Gen which makes the overall user experience far more enjoyable.

The one other upgrade that really matters for the Kindle 11th Gen is battery life. Where the 10th Gen could stay charged for roughly four weeks, the 11th Gen lasts up to a whopping 10 weeks. Obviously, this is reduced when actively using the device, but still, the battery on the 11th Gen is a huge step up from the 10th Gen.

Beyond the changes noted above, the Kindle 11th and 10th Gen devices are fairly similar. Reading on the 10th Gen was already an excellent experience and the 11th Gen improves this in incremental but still important ways. At the end of the day, the Kindle is a brilliant device and iterating on it must be a difficult challenge. With the Kindle 11th Gen, Amazon has knocked it out of the park.

If you’re looking to upgrade your e-reader or are interested in getting one for the first time, the Kindle 11th Gen is the perfect place to start. Anything that gets people reading is a win in my eyes and with hundreds of thousands of books at your fingertips, it really doesn’t get any better than Kindle.

A Kindle 11th Gen unit was provided by Amazon.
