Dead Island 2 showcase shows off gameplay, weapons, zombies and…Alexa?

Dead Island 2’s showcase has come and gone and given fans quite a decent look at what’s to come when the game releases in 2023. Featuring an extremely cringe live-action short, interspersed with gameplay footage and trailers, the showcase delivered a tonne of info.

While the live-action short was probably best left on the cutting room floor, the actual trailers were pretty great. The first, “Welcome to HELL-A” shows off environments, enemies, weapons, combat and more.

Dead Island 2 looks amazing, at least in the footage shown and has a vibrant, bright aesthetic which is very different to most zombie games and reminiscent of the original Dead Island.

Beyond the “Welcome to HELL-A” trailer, the Dead Island 2 showcase surprisingly shows off how the game has implemented Alexa. According to Deep Silver;

Hey Zombie! Alexa Game Control is coming to Dead Island 2 and will be available on PC and Xbox versions of the game in the US, Canada and UK. Use your voice to interact with zombies, swap your weapons, call up your map, and more.

Suddenly having flashbacks to Mass Effect 3 and trying to use Kinect to cast abilities…let’s hope Alexa is more up to the task.

The Dead Island 2 showcase finished up by showing off pre-order bonuses and contents of the Limited HELL-A Edition of the game. Deep Silver has advised “Players who pre-order any edition of Dead Island 2 will receive the Memories Of Banoi Pack, featuring two unique weapons that celebrates the original Dead Island game and a special skill card.”

A special hand-painted resin collector’s figurine of Amy is also available as a standalone purchase.

The HELL-A Edition includes:

  • Exclusive SteelBook with game disc
  • Expansion Pass
  • Venice Beach Travel Map
  • 6 x Slayer Tarot Cards
  • 2 x Pin Badges
  • 1 x Patch
  • Golden Weapons Pack
  • Pulp Weapons Pack
  • Character Packs 1 & 2

Dead Island 2 is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on April 28, 2023.
