LEGO Super Mario Pre-Orders, Expansion Sets Announced

The LEGO Group, in partnership with Nintendo, have announced pre-orders for the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now available worldwide. The collaboration between the two companies was first teased in March with the release of a promotional video showing the LEGO Super Mario concept in action

More than a standard LEGO set or video game, LEGO Super Mario includes a LEGO Mario figure that features a reactive LCD screen that changes depending on the context. Placing LEGO Mario on coloured bricks sees him react in different ways.

LEGO Mario also features speakers that allow fans to enjoy iconic Super Mario sounds when collecting coins, jumping on enemies and more.

On the announcement, Digitial Design Lead on the project for the LEGO Group, Jonathan Bennink said, “I am pleased that today we were able to reveal more details about this exciting new collaboration that has led to a reimagination of the LEGO building experience and an entirely new way to play inspired by the beloved video game icon, Super Mario.

“We can’t wait to see fans get creative and challenge each other with this highly engaging and social play experience.”

Expansion Sets also Announced

In addition to today’s announcement, LEGO and Nintendo also unveiled two expansion sets to launch alongside the core LEGO Super Mario Starter Course: Pirahana Plant Power Slide and Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle.

Expansion sets can be combined with the Starter Course thanks to their modular design. Fans can create their own unique combinations to bring to life the Mario course they want to play alongside their friends.

A free LEGO Super Mario app for smart devices will also be available that in addition to containing building instructions, keeps tracks of scores so as to encourage fans to constantly rebuild courses.

I've written for various gaming outlets over the years and enjoy playing across all console platforms and genre types, though have a penchant for action/adventure, RPGs and loot-shooters. Pokémon is my favourite franchise and was there at the birth of the infamous 'rare candy' hack.
