Bungie raised $1 million USD through its Guardians for Australia initiative

Remember that little disaster from the end of last year? Before the entire world was in crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic? You know, the one where most of Australia was on fire? Well, in response to the fires, Bungie launched the Guardians for Australia initiative to help use Destiny 2 to raise much-needed money for recovery.

To raise funds, Bungie was offering a very special t-shirt with all profits being donated to WIRES and to the NSW Rural Fire Service. Since the launch of the t-shirt on January 14, 2020, more than 75,000 have been sold.

This means that Bungie has raised $1 million USD (approx 1.7 million AUD). The t-shirt (above) incorporated iconic Australian imagery with a Guardian ship in the sky above.

Christine Edwards, Senior Foundation Manager at Bungie Foundation said;

We are blown away by the outpouring of love and generosity the Bungie community has shown for Australia following their devastating wildfire seasons. Because of our fans, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service will be better equipped to deal with future challenges and serve the community in times of need.

WIRES will be able to rehabilitate their sick, injured and displaced wildlife while restoring their natural habitats. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for continuing to demonstrate that the Bungie community is stronger together and truly makes our world a better and kinder place.

Guardians for Australia is Bungie’s most recent fundraising effort, following programs for earthquake relief in Nepal and hurricane relief due to Hurrican Harvey.
