Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution is a CG remake of the first Pokémon movie, coming to Netflix

Netflix has announced that Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution will be coming to the streaming platform on Pokémon Day, February 27, 2020. Originally released in Japan, in theatres on July 12, 2019. Its world premiere was at the Anime Expo 2019 in LA. With the worldwide release set for Netflix (except in Japan and Korea) Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution is the first Pokémon movie to be released on a streaming platform instead of in theatres or on TV.

A remake of the first film — Pokémon: The First Movie — Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution retells the story of Mewtwo’s creation and cloning of the legendary Pokémon Mew.

The film stars Ash, Pikachu, Togepi, Brock, Misty and Team Rocket and is certainly a hit of nostalgia for older fans.

Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution

From the trailer above you can see the art style is still very reminiscent of the Pokémon cartoon series and all of the familiar voice actors return. It also looks a lot like the visuals used for Pokémon characters in Super Smash Bros.

Premiering on February 27, 2020, Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution is a Netflix original and will be exclusive to the platform.
