Call of Duty League kicks off in 2020

Activision is launching Call of Duty esports in a big way in 2020. The Call of Duty League commences in January and will see 12 teams from across the world compete. The League will see a 5v5 home-and-away season with special events to be held throughout.

Teams in the League will host two weekend home series in 2020. These will take place in Spring and Summer and will feature multiple teams. In addition to the Summer and Spring splits, Call of Duty League will host a midseason weekend featuring all 12 teams.

Regular season matches will be best-of-five playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare on PS4.

The competition will see the teams with the best win-loss records advance to the postseason. There, they’ll compete in double-elimination playoffs until a winner is crowned.

Playoff berths will include 2 wild card slots, and both the Playoffs and Championship matches will take place at the Call of Duty League Championship Weekend in Summer 2020

In addition to the formal creation of the Pro League, Call of Duty Challengers is the amateur path to pro. Challengers will see amateur players take part in tournaments and online competitions to aim for top spot on the ladder.

Challengers has a dedicated prize pool of $1 million USD and will be supported by pro teams through development and pipelines to pro.

The Call of Duty League inaugural weekend kicks off in Minneapolis, Minnesota from January 24-26. It will be held at the Minneapolis Armory and hosted by Minnesota Rokkr.

All 12 Pro teams will compete in the opening weekend across three days. Fans will be able to get in on the action too with the first Challengers Open. Amateurs can take part and compete in an open bracket tournament.
