The Outer Worlds’ Halcyon Colony Newsreel is brilliant

Developer Obsidian EntertainmentFallout New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity — has definitely got a vision for The Outer Worlds. Set in an alternate future where President McKinley wasn’t assassinated. Thus he wasn’t succeeded by Roosevelt who was never able to implement his “Square Deal.” This means that in The Outer Worlds, corporations have had unfettered power for years. Giant companies have even begun to colonise planets and on your way to one of these planets, you accidentally end up at the edges of the colonies; The Outer Worlds.

In the latest trailer for The Outer Worlds, Obsidian has it’s tongue firmly in cheek as it presents an old-timey newsreel advertising Halcyon Colony as the ultimate place to live and work. Even though, it’s clearly anything but.

The trailer is complete with a Bob Danvers-Walker (Pathe News) style voiceover.

The Outer Worlds

In the newsreel, we’re introduced to the communities on Terra 2 and the wildlife and alien landscape of Monarch. Neither place looks particularly friendly, though they both look like there is plenty of potential for outrageous fun and role-playing.

We also get a brief look at weapons and a hint at what conversations and missions may look like.

From everything in this trailer, The Outer Worlds looks like a truly brilliant RPG, one with as much humour as it does gameplay and one that will certainly keep players entertained.

The Outer Worlds is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 25, 2019. It will also be released for Switch bu there is no date as yet.
