THQ Announces ARPG Darksiders Genesis, Full Reveal at E3

The next game in the Darksiders series is Darksiders Genesis. Taking a vastly different approach from other games in the series, this new entry is a top-down ARPG like Diablo.

Darksiders Genesis will star new Horseman Strife and, as we see in the trailer below, will also feature War.

Whether the other Horseman — Death and Fury — is unkown at thit stage.

Darksiders Genesis

This new entry in the series will be coming to PC, PS4, Google Stadia, Switch and Xbox One this year. It’s being billed as a spin-off from the main series and will see Strife “called upon to save humankind from certain destruction at the hands of Lucifer.”

Lucifer is another name for Satan, the Devil and…yes…Diablo.

Prior to the trailer being released and Darksiders Genesis being officially announced, an Amazon listing leaked the game. It included a description that read;

From the dawn of creation, The Council has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are The Horsemen, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power.

However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.

Still reeling from the events on Eden, War and Strife have been given a new assignment — Lucifer, the enigmatic and deceptive demon king, has been plotting to upset the Balance by granting power to master demons throughout Hell.

War and Strife must hunt down these masters, gather information, and ultimately fight their way through a tangled, demonic conspiracy that threatens to forever upset the Balance and unravel all of creation.

From the description it seems that both War and Strife will play important roles in the game though we’ll have to wait to hear from THQ Nordic at E3. It is saying that Darksiders Genesis will include “intense combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, epic boss battles and serpent holes from heaven to hell.”

Stay tuned for more.
