Final Fantasy 14 passes 16 million players

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 14 has now passed 16 million players. It was only in October 2018 that it was announced Final Fantasy 14 had passed 14 million players.

Now, an additional 2 million players have joined in ahead of the release of the next expansion on July 2, 2019; Shadowbringers.

In addition to the announcement of the player numbers, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida also recently streamed his Letter from the Producer live from San Francisco. Yoshida touched on changes to the battle system, updates to FATEs and quests and quality of life changes.

Alongside the announcements, Square Enix released the Job Actions trailer which shows new abilities for all Jobs, including Dancer and Gunbreaker.

Ahead of the release of Shadowbringers, Square Enix has released the official benchmark software for download. It includes Shadowbringers footage and a character creator that lets players create Viera and Hrothgar characters.

Creating characters in the benchmarking software will allow players to carry the character over to Shadowbringers when it’s released. You can download the benchmark software here.

We recently travelled to London to go hands-on with Shadowbringers ahead of release and chat with Yoshida. You can find all of our coverage here.

Shadowbringers will be available on July 2, 2019.
