How to unlock the Shotgun and Grenade Launcher in Resident Evil 2

When it comes to murdering zombies, nothing beats a good old fashioned Shotgun. Or in Claire’s case, Grenade Launcher. The Resident Evil 2 Shotgun and Grenade Launcher are specific to Leon and Claire respectively and are fairly easy to unlock early on in the game.

With this guide, we’ll show you how to get your hands on Resident Evil 2 Shotgun and Grenade Launchers and get blasting.

The Shotgun and Grenade Launcher are both located in the Armory on the ground or first floor of the Police Station. You can gain access to the armoury very early on in Scenario A, right after you climb through the briefing room window.

Inside the armoury are a number of lockers, which can only be opened by entering their number into a keypad. Unfortunately, two of the keys (2 & 3) have been removed. However, this keypad does not unlock the Shotgun or Grenade Launcher.

To do that, you’ll need to find the Weapon Keycard.

The Weapon Keycard is always located in the same place, regardless of character or Scenario. It can be found in the Art Room, near the Chief’s Office and just opposite the Waiting Room. Inside this room, you’ll also find the Statue that is missing an arm and holding a sceptre.

The Weapon Keycard is sitting on a desk right in front of you as you walk into the room. To gain access to the room in Scenario A, you’ll first need the Spade Key, but not so in Scenario B. When you start Scenario B/2nd Run, you’ll immediately gain access to the Hallway where the Art Room is located.

After the cutscene plays that shows the helicopter exploding and you’ve collected the Gate Key from the room locked by the chain, go through the gate and head up the stairs to your right. Go through the door, go forward and on the right will be the door to the Art Room.

In either Scenario, once you have the Weapon Keycard, head back to the Armory on the West Side and use the Keycard on the locked cabinet at the rear of the room.

Once you do, voila, the Shotgun or Grenade Launcher and some ammo are yours.

Resident Evil 2 is available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
