How to rematch a new challenger if you lose in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is finally out. That means players are going to be working overtime to unlock all the fighters as quickly as they can.

The starting roster in Smash Bros Ultimate is a little anaemic, with only eight playable characters to begin with. Much like on the N64. However, it doesn’t take long before new challengers start to appear.

And that’s when Smash Bros Ultimate really starts to get good. However, what happens if you don’t defeat the challenger on your first try? Can you fight them again? How long will it take for them to reappear?

These are good questions and luckily we have the answers.

New Challenger Rematch Smash Bros Ultimate

When you start Smash Bros Ultimate you’ll be able to choose from the following fighters;

  • Mario
  • Donkey Kong
  • Link
  • Samus
  • Yoshi
  • Kirby
  • Fox
  • Pikachu

It shouldn’t be too long before your first challenger appears. If you in the battle, you’ll unlock a new fighter. If you lose, the challenger will disappear and reappear sometime later.

However, thankfully, there’s now a new way to rematch the new challengers and unlock them much more quickly.

Firstly, you’ll need to have played 10-matches. After which you’ll unlock a new menu item within the Games & More menu. The new ‘Challenger’s Approach’ option will let you rematch any of the new Challengers you’ve lost to and failed to unlock.

This means no more waiting, or replaying a match just to have the new Challenger rematch. Instead, you can tackle them again unlock them much more quickly.

However, the Challenger’s Approach option is also on a 10-minute timer like the new Challenger appearances. If you’ve lost to multiple Challengers, the Challenger’s Approach option will only allow you to have a rematch with the character you lost to the longest time ago.

Say you lost to Princess Peach and Roy. When the Challenger’s Approach option appears, you’ll fight Princess Peach. If you win, you’ll unlock her and the next time Challenger’s Approach appears, you’ll face Roy.

However, if you lose to Peach again, you’ll face her again, the next time the option appears.

How to unlock New Challenger Rematch Smash Bros Ultimate

  • Play 10 matches
  • Head to Games & More

  • Rematch those new challengers

There you have it.

New Challenger rematch in Smash Bros Ultimate is simple and quick. Soon your roster will be packed with new fighters.
