Gameplay footage from Humanhead’s cancelled Prey 2 released

Prey 2 gameplay footage has appeared online. No, not the sequel to Prey from Arkane,. This is Prey 2 gameplay footage from the cancelled sequel by Human Head Studios.

The short video — that you can watch below — was posted on Twitter this week by Andrew Borman, Digital Games Curator at the Museum of Play in Rochester.

Prey 2 Gameplay Footage

Prey 2 was the planned sequel to the original Prey but suffered a long and difficult development. Originally announced in 2008, Human Head Studios worked on Prey 2 first under 3D Realms and then Bethesda.

In 2014, Bethesda’s Pete Hines officially announced the cancellation of Prey 2.

It was a game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be –– we never saw a path to success if we finished it. It wasn’t up to our quality standard, and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development.

That wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one that won’t surprise many folks given that we hadn’t been talking about it. Human Head Studios is no longer working on it. It’s a franchise we still believe we can do something with — we just need to see what that something is.

Arkane’s Prey was released in 2017 but is a very different game from that which Human Head Studios was working on.

Prey 2 We Hardly Knew You

In the video above, you can see just how far Human Head Studios had come with Prey 2. This Prey 2 gameplay footage shows off the ideas and mechanics that would have been included int he finished game, had it ever been released.

The gameplay footage also appears to have been the PS3 version due to the telltale Triangle, Square, X and Circle icons.

Maybe one day we’ll get to see more of Prey 2, for now, we’ll have to look at this 50-seconds and wonder what if.
