Bayonetta 2 amiibo unlocks – What can you get with your amiibo?

Bayonetta 2 is now available for Switch. The port has given Bayonetta 2 amiibo functionality and scanning your amiibo will unlock some nifty items.

We haven’t been able to test all Bayonetta 2 amiibo unlocks as we don’t have access to every amiibo. We have, however, been able to scan 19 different amiibo to determine what you can unlock with the Bayonetta 2 amiibo function.

Bayonetta 2 amiibo unlocks

Nintendo has already confirmed that you can scan amiibo to instantly unlock some of Bayonetta’s costumes in-game.

If you don’t have the corresponding amiibo, you can always purchase the costume using the in-game currency halos.

If you scan in a Princess Peach, Samus, Daisy, Fox McCloud or Link amiibo you will unlock a costume related to that character.

The Bayonetta 2 amiibo function allows you to bypass the 100,000 halo fee for each of these costumes and simply unlock them.

The five costumes are;

Mushroom Kingdom Princess – Princess Peach

Star Mercernary – Fox McCloud & Falco

Sarasaland Princess – Daisy

This image was taken from Bayonetta on Switch as no Daisy amiibo was available.

Hero of Hyrule – Link

This image was taken from Bayonetta on Switch as no Link amiibo was available.

Galactic Bounty Hunter – Samus Aran

To access and change your costumes, you’ll first need to unlock one by using the Bayonetta 2 amiibo function through the Gates of Hell store, or by purchasing one with halos.

Once you’ve purchased a costume you’re able to change with the menu between chapters. Each of the special Nintendo themed costumes comes with a special surprise.

The Star Mercenary costume, for example, allows players to hold down Y and charge up their Arwing blasters just like in Star Fox. We won’t spoil all the surprises here, but each costume has a distinct ability that separates it from the others.

Aside from unlocking costumes, the Bayonetta 2 amiibo function can help you gain in-game items and currency far quicker than by playing. This could prove helpful to players who get stuck or just want to buy all the cool stuff in Rodin’s store.

More Bayonetta 2 amiibo unlocks

In the image above, you can see that using the Bayonetta 2 amiibo function is limited, but not massively. You are able to scan 32 different amiibo per day and each amiibo can only be scanned once.

Of the 19 amiibo we scanned, only Princess Peach and Bowser gave us a special item. The remainder rewarded us with in-game consumables and currency.

Peach granted us access to the Mushroom Princess Costume and Bowser gave us the Chain Chomp weapon. Boo, Bowser Jr and Koopa Troopa amiibo will also unlock Chain Chomp.

The remaining 17 amiibo gave us the following;

4,000 – 16,000 Halos (different each time) Red Hot Shot
Mega Purple Magic Lollipop Midas’s Testament
Purple Magic Lollipop Green Herb Lollipop
Yellow Moon Lollipop Mandragora Root
Baked Gecko Mega Yello Moon Lollipop
Bloody Rose Lollipop Mega Bloody Rose Lollipop
Unicorn Horn Mega Green Herb Lollipop

Goomba Dr. Mario Yarn Yoshi Pink
Koopa Troopa Sonic 8-Bit Mario
Luigi Megaman
Bowser Peach

Each time we used the Bayonetta 2 amiibo function, we got a message from the game, with some flavour text about the amiibo we’d used.

You can see examples of them below.

There is an actual Bayonetta amiib0 too and thanks to Miketendo64 we can let you know what they unlock.

There are two different Bayonetta amiibo, one with long hair as she appears in Bayonetta and one with short hair as she appears in Bayonetta 2.

As Miketendo64 writes;

Bayonetta Player 1 (Short hair): Unlocks all Couture Bullets for Super Mirror 2 (Couture Bullet costumes consist of Dress, Police Woman, Schoolgirl, Metal Witch and their variants for New Style Bayonetta)

Bayonetta Player 2 (Long hair): Unlocks all Couture Bullets for Super Mirror 64 and Super Mirror 64 2 (Couture Bullet costumes consist of Old Hairstyle, Nun, Mushroom Kingdom Princess, Sarasaland Princess, Hero of Hyrule and Galactic Bounty Hunter for Old Style Bayonetta)

It’s also noted that the Bayonetta amiibo also give messages to the player referencing Bayonetta 3.

Bayonetta 2 amiibo support is extensive and even works with Shovel Knight and the Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card.

Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are now available for Nintendo Switch.

Bayonetta 3 will be exclusive to Switch when it’s released.
