SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake has a release date and I don’t know who’s more excited, me or my toddler

Two brand-new trailers and a release date have dropped for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake today. Developer Purple Lamp Studios and publisher THQ Nordic have revealed that The Cosmic Shake is coming to PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One on 31 January 2023.

Purple Lamp Studios, the team behind Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, is back with a brand-new SpongeBob game. In The Cosmic Shake, SpongeBob and Patrick get their hands on some Mermaid’s Tears and use them to make a bunch of wishes that threaten the very fabric of reality.

Portals to Wishworlds open up and see Patrick and SpongeBob faced with “knights, cowboys, pirates, and prehistoric snails.”

The Cosmic Shake

The new trailer shows off almost 2-minutes of gameplay, costumes and more. I watched it with my 4-year-old son who exclaimed;

“CAVEMAN SPONGEBOB!”

“WHAT?! SQUIDWARD SPONGEBOB!?”

“PATRICK! OMG”

He was losing his young mind at the prospect of all of these different costumes for SpongeBob and I have to say, his enthusiasm rubbed off on me such that we were both cheering whenever the trailer showed us something new. A second trailer detailed the BFF Edition of the game and the very special Cosmic Victory Statue. Pre-orders for The Cosmic Shake are now open and anyone who pre-orders will get access to The Costume Pack. It includes;

  • RoboBob SteelPants
  • Mermaid Man Bob
  • JellyBob
  • Primitive Sponge
  • Dried Sponge
  • Opposite Day
  • Band Geek

The BFF Edition includes;

  • Cosmic Victory Statue – 25cm / 9.8″
  • Inflatable Patrick – 50cm / 19.7″
  • BFF Amulet with Necklace
  • 4 Costume miniature bouncing balls
  • 4 placemats
  • Standard copy of the game on the chosen platform
  • Costume Pack DLC

The Cosmic Shake is coming to PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One on January 31, 2023. Thanks to these trailers, I’m going to spend the next 2 months telling my son that the new SpongeBob game isn’t out yet and no, the “man” isn’t bringing it in the mail today…

Here’s hoping something else catches his eye and distracts him.
