Magic: The Gathering in-store events to be held across Australia this June

Wizards of the Coast has announced it will be bringing live, in-person Magic: The Gathering back to Aussie stores this June and July. The Store Challenger Series kicks off on June 21, 2021 and will take place across over 170 stores in Australia and New Zealand.

The stores holding the Store Challenger Series are part of the Wizards Play Network and will each have unique foil cards to giveaway as prizes.

The series has been designed to encourage players to get back in-store and play Magic: The Gathering in-person after the extended period of separation and isolation due to COVID-19. The special foil cards are “a thematic extension of the Year of the Ox promo cards that were released earlier this year.”

Magic: The Gathering Store Challenger Series

Wizards of the Coast has announced there will be four Challenger Series this year and each will have its very own foil promo card, with two new art versions. These include;

  • Moraug, Fury of Akoum
  • Ox of Agonas
  • Angrath, the Flame-Chained
  • Tahngarth, First Mate

According to Wizards, the events will be structured as follows;

  • Participating stores must host at least four qualifier events throughout the event window.
  • The top two players from each qualifier are invited to the Store Championship.
  • Stores will run one Store Championship after the final qualifier in each Series.
