NBA 2K21 on next-gen replaces The Neighborhood with The City, Affiliations return

Visual Concepts and 2K have today announced a brand-new and improved feature for NBA 2K21 on next-gen; The City. The Park was first introduced to the franchise in NBA 2K14 and expanded and grew into The Neighborhood. Now, NBA 2K21 features The City.

According to Erick Boenisch, Executive Producer at Visual Concepts, The City, “is many, many times larger than previous Neighborhoods.  A design that resembles a modern metropolis, complete with towering skyscrapers, sprawling plazas, and a city center. Oh, and it houses four distinct boroughs that are controlled by four rival Affiliations.”

In NBA 2K21 on next-gen, in The City, players will be able to take part in Affiliations in addition to all of the other content in the mode.

NBA 2K21 The City

Included in The City are Rookieville, Boroughs, Event Centre, Garage Hoops, People of the City, Gatorade Training Facility, Special Courts, Fire Ball, Pink Diamond Plaza and Apparel Stores. Players will begin their journey in The City in Rookieville by proving “their skills amongst other rookie MyPLAYERs in this isolated cluster of basketball courts.” Players won’t be able to access the rest of what The City has to offer until they’ve completed the requirements of Rookieville.

The boroughs of The City are where Affiliations come into play and there are dedicated spaces for North, South, East and West. Each of the four boroughs has its own distinct identity and features its Affiliations colours, logos and courts. Players can make use of the Warehouse courts in these boroughs to improve their MyPLAYER.

Exploring The City can be done via skateboard and BMX and Visual Concepts is promising players they’ll be able to grind and perform tricks on both. Grinding is a new mechanic this year and players will be able to perform attention grabbing tricks as they please. Within The City, players will be able to find NPCs who will give out quests to be completed. These quest lines will reward players with unique items not available in the in-game stores.

The four Affiliations are;

  • North Side Knights
  • South City Vipers
  • Beasts of the East
  • Western Wildcats

Players will be automatically assigned an Affiliation when they complete Rookieville but will be able to switch by visiting Town Hall. Speaking of Town Hall, each Affiliation will have its own Mayor who will be responsible for;

  • Affiliation Videos
  • Custom Playlists
  • Court Design
  • Mural Design
  • Uniform Selection

The first candidates for Mayors have been chosen by Visual Concepts and will be members of the community. Every six weeks, there will be an in-game election and each Affiliation will choose a new Mayor.

2K and Visual Concepts are promising that NBA 2K21’s The City will be a living, breathing space for players to ball, explore, skate, bike, practice and play with an almost unlimited amount of content.

NBA 2K21 launches for next-gen consoles at launch.
