My Fake Band is part Cards Against Humanity & part Balderdash and it’s now on Kickstarter

Never Played Out is heading to Kickstarter to seek funding for its music industry inspired card game MyFakeBand. MyFakeBand attempts to capture “the absurdity surrounding band names and song titles” and lampoons the music industry as a whole.

Never Played Out says;

The music scene has forever been a lawless wasteland of endless bands who rise and fall much like the tide. In this vast world there are a few things that all bands have in common, such as the process of choosing band names and song titles. You may ask yourself, how do they do it? Why did they choose that ridiculous name? What does it all mean?

With My Fake Band, Never Played Out is attempting to remove the guesswork. The game will ship with 150 fake band cards and 150 genre cards and it’s up to the players to come up with the names of hit songs for these never-before-heard bands.

My Fake Band

Never Played Out says in the press release;

What do bands like Butthole Surfers, Hoobastank, Limp Bizkit, Barenaked Ladies, and Hootie & The Blowfish have in common? Well you guessed it, impeccable taste in band names. MYFAKEBAND is a music inspired card game that captures the absurdity surrounding band names and song titles

Currently at $5,261 AUD of a $14,388 AUD goal with 11 days left of the Kickstarter, My Fake Band is seeking backers to help get it over the line. If successful, the finished product will include 300 cards and instructions and will be playable by 4-8 players.

In each round of My Fake Band, one player draws one card from each deck (band cards and genre cards) then each player writes the name a song that could be that fake band’s first hit single. The player who drew the cards reads each song title and players need to guess who wrote which.

It’s part Balderdash and part Cards Against Humanity and it sounds like a lot of fun.

Check out more on My Fake Band in the video below and head to the Kickstarter to pledge your support.
