At EA Play Live, the next game from Hazelight — A Way Out, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons — is “co-op 3D action adventure platformer” It Takes Two. Introduced by Hazelight’s colourful founder Josef Fares, It Takes Two is Hazelight’s attempt at bridging the two worlds of gameplay and story.
Fares says that there are a lot of studios making games with great stories but those games “pretty much have one mechanic they reuse all the time.
“The designers and story writers are doing two different things.” In It Takes Two, Rose’s parents Cody and May are separating and Rose is upset about it. To cope, she builds two dolls from wood and clay and they come alive.

Fares says players will control the doll versions of Cody and May and will be controlling their emotions. “There are even levels where we’re actually making a mechanic for their emotions, marrying the story and the mechanics,” he explained.
As the couple is going through a divorce, through unknown means their minds are transported into two dolls which their daughter, Rose, made to represent them. Now they must reluctantly find a way to get back into their bodies, a quest which takes them through the most wild, unexpected and fantastical journey imaginable
Launching in 2021, It Takes Two will be available for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.
