Serious Sam 4 is turning the series up to 11

Croteam and Devolver Digital are bringing Serious Sam back this August in Serious Sam 4. This new entry in the franchise is promising to be the biggest, baddest and most over-the-top yet. Once again, Sam must fight against the hordes of Mental’s forces as they spread across the world. This time though, they’re powered by the Legion System.

Developed by Croteam for Serious Sam 4, Dean Sekulić, Graphics Engineer calls it a “really nice trick.” The Legion System allows Croteam to display “hundreds of thousands of enemies on screen.”

Initially, Croteam hoped to display 10,000 enemies but were pleasantly surprised by the huge numbers, in the hundreds of thousands, that could be displayed. In the developer update video (below) you can see Serious Sam 4 in action with this many enemies.

It’s insane.

Serious Sam 4

Familiar enemies will return in Serious Sam 4 alongside some brand-new enemies and characters. Croteam says that some of the new characters in the game are incredibly important for Serious Sam 4 and the future of the franchise.

Murdering these enemies will be done with a bigger and better arsenal with some ridiculous weapons at your disposal. Players can wield the double-barrel shotgun, minigun, chainsaw launcher, auto shotgun, cannon and more.

Finally, players will be able to tackle Serious Sam 4 in both single player and co-op. Four players can team up in online co-op to complete missions and side quests with bonus difficulty modifers.

Coming to PC and Google Stadia in August 2020, Serious Sam 4 looks to be as ridiculous, insane and over-the-top as you’d expect.

Like Sekulić said, Croteam has turned it up to 11 and judging from the footage, we couldn’t agree more.
