Ninja Theory announces Project: MARA

Ninja Theory has announced a new title today; Project: MARA. An experimental horror title, Project: MARA is touted as “a real-world and grounded representation of mental terror.” According to Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades, Project: MARA “will be based heavily on research, interviews, and firsthand accounts to recreate the horrors of the mind as accurately and believably as possible.”

In a seven-minute video detailing the development of the game thus far, Antoniades says that the game will only have one character and one location. He goes on to call it an experiment in the medium of interactive storytelling.

The teaser trailer shows a woman, in a dark space, terrified before a twisted version of her appears for a brief moment.

Project: MARA

Ninja Theory is no stranger to mental terror having explored psychosis in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Recently, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga was announced and in the same developer diary mentioned above, Antionades gives some insight into the new title.

While Hellblade gave us a very personal insight into psychosis, this sequel builds on that to show how madness and suffering shapes myths, gods, and religion.

Our goal is to make an experience comparable to the epic myths and sagas of old

Project: MARA and Hellblade II do not have release dates as yet.
