The long wait is over. You can finally play Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and see the fruits of Respawn’s labour. Fallen Order tells the story of Cal Kestis, a Padawan hiding from the Empire in the wake of Order 66.
The game takes place across a number of planets in the Star Wars canon and features Dark Souls-lite combat, Uncharted and Tomb Raider style exploration and some light Metroidvania mechanics.
Billed as being The Force Unleased “without the Mountain Dew moments,” Jedi Fallen Order is more restrained when it comes to its depiction of the Force and its power. Early in the game, Cal’s connection to the Force is damaged by what he’s been through as a Padawan, so he’s without many of his abilities.
Over the game, you collect new Force Powers and grow as a Jedi.
Jedi Fallen Order
One you leave Bracca and head to Bogano the game starts properly and you begin to reclaim your lost Force Powers. The first Force Power you reclaim is Wall Run. Wall Run enables you to…run on walls. It’s a staple of Respawn’s games and it works really well for traversal in Jedi Fallen Order.
The next ability you reclaim is Slow.
By pressing R1, you can slow down enemies and objects in order to make combat a little easier or to solve puzzles and platforming.
Following Slow, you’ll unlock Force Push. A classic power and one that becomes incredibly useful. You can use Push to knock enemies back or down (depending on size), you can use it to create new paths and to solve puzzles.
Next is Force Pull. Force Pull is the opposite of Push, but it’s just as useful for combat and puzzles. It’s also a very handy traversal mechanic as it allows you to reach for rope swings in mid-air.
Finally, you unlock Jedi Flip. This is your standard, videogame double jump. It’s used to get higher and to reach out of reach areas.
The Skill Tree also features a host of upgrades and abilities which improves Cal and his combat skill.
