How to redownload P.T. Silent Hills Demo

The playable teaser for Silent Hills was released on PS4 in 2014. Known as P.T. (short for playable teaser) and released under the fake developer 7780s Studio, this demo for Silent Hills was created by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro. Played in first-person, P.T. featured a hallway that players “explored” in an infinite loop.

The cryptic nature of the demo, the requirements to complete it and the intriguing concept meant P.T. was incredibly well-received. However, after Konami cancelled Silent Hills, it removed P.T. from the PlayStation Network.

Users who didn’t delete the game from their PS4 were still able to access it, but those who did delete it could no longer re-download it. Thankfully, there is a way.

How to redownload P.T.

This method for how to redownload P.T. comes from Wololo.net and user orangpelupa. Originally posted in 2015 in a forum and reposted to Wololo.net in 2016, the method for how to redownload P.T. is surprisingly simple.

I am also able to confirm that it still works today, at the time of writing; August 13, 2019.

As per Wololo.net, the steps to follow are;

On your Windows PC

  1. Download SUWI
  2. Run Suwi R20110308.exe and check all options.
  3. Download CheckIP
  4. Open the zip file and run “Check IP.bat” to see your proxy IP address.

On Your PS4

  1. Go to NETWORK settings > Set up Internet Connection -> use LAN/WiFi > Custom > Automatic > Do not specify > Automatic > Automatic.
  2. Now you are on PROXY screen, choose USE and type your proxy IP address with PORT 808.
  3. Complete the network setting.

Now that you’re set-up, head into the Notifications menu on your PS4 and delete the error notification for the P.T. download if you have one. Once you’ve confirmed you don’t have an error notification, navigate to your Library, find P.T. in your purchased applications and redownload it.

Once the download has finished, you can set your PS4 connection back to what it was without using the Proxy.

For more information on the download, head to Wololo.net and read the notes.

This method will only work if you downloaded P.T. when it was available on the PlayStation Store. If you never downloaded it, unfortunately, you’re not able to get it.

Thanks to Nathan Cocks on Twitter for bringing this to my attention.
