World of Warcraft Mythic Dungeon Invitational heads Down Under

The Mythic Dungeon International Spring Final is here. Most readers will know those words, but maybe not the significance of what they mean for World of Warcraft, esports and a sleepy little town called Sydney.

The Mythic Dungeon International, or MDI for short, is the latest esport to emerge from World of Warcraft.

Blizzard has embraced the competitive mindset between high tier players. MDI pits teams in a head-to-head race to complete difficult World of Warcraft Dungeons. Powered up enemies alongside crazy map variables called ‘affixes’ await those brave enough to venture into the dungeon.

Siege of Boralus, the dungeon that kills pick-up groups

It’s East vs West at the MDI Spring Final. The top four teams from each division square off for their chance at glory. I’m eager to see the Australian squad, Fullscreened, in action as they make their main stage debut.

The fastest and most consistent team will be crowned Spring Champions, earning $100,000 USD for their trouble. Whilst the top two teams secure their invite to compete at BlizzCon this November.

All matches are a best-of-three and the tournament uses a double-elimination bracket. Meaning each team gets a second chance to knuckle down, dig deep and prove they are the best Dungeon runners out there.

Players will be allowed to change characters between dungeons, with no restriction on class, race or faction. These changes mean the fearsome Siege of Boralus Dungeon has been added to the mix.

Siege of Boralus is a challenging map that often breaks the back of random groups in World of Warcraft. With a changing start-point and Dungeon layout based on the players’ faction.

There Can Be Only One

The teams for the Mythic Dungeon International Spring Final are:

  • MDI West
    • Method EU
    • Method NA
    • Aprakeydabra
    • Forty K
  • MDI East
    • Team D
    • Black Mamba
    • BUFF WAR NERF ROGUE
    • Fullscreened

The favourites to win it all are Method EU. Players have been handpicked from what is undeniably the best World of Warcraft organisation ever. Method recruits the best players to secure world first in everything World of Warcraft related.

They have been a dominant force for as long as I can remember, and are showing no signs of slowing down. But will they rise up and be Spring Champions or succumb to the pressure? Method clearly has a target on their back, that’s for certain.

The team rosters are set, the beautifully talented casting team has been assembled and the list of dungeon affixes have been made available. All that’s left is to give the green light and watch the madness kick off this weekend.
