Final Fantasy 14 celebrates five years with some interesting facts

Final Fantasy 14 is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. In that spirit, Square Enix has sent us an infographic (below) detailing some interesting facts about the game.

Since its release, Final Fantasy 14 has seen over 14 million players, 800,000 players per day using the Aetheryte travel system and 107 awards from gaming magazines, websites and the like.

Final Fantasy 14 was originally released in 2010 and was met with a vastly negative reception. In an attempt to salvage the brand and the title, Square Enix worked on A Realm Reborn which was released in 2013 and is the game that is being celebrated this year.

Celebrating Five Years

The re-released Realm Reborn was met with a much warmer reception from fans and critics, which is why it’s managed to successfully last for the past five years. A total of 14 million players is also an impressive number, given the rocky start the game had.

The infographic notes that 14 million players is equal to the population of LA, Tokyo or London. That’s a huge number of people playing Final Fantasy 14.

Additionally, players have spent 1,800,000,000,000 GIL on repairs in-game which equates to enough funds to repair the Leaning Tower of Pisa for the next 530,000 years. Finally, the in-game music lasts for a total of 2,000 minutes which means you could drive from Chicago to Santa Monica along Route 66 and listen to the entire soundtrack.

That’s 3,755km without stopping if you’re travelling at 113km/h or 70m/ph.

Check out the full infographic below. Final Fantasy 14 is available now.
