Luminosity wins CWL Birmingham Open

The CWL Birmingham Open was held over the weekend in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Sponsored by PlayStation, the CWL Birmingham Open saw eight teams compete in the three-day event at the INSOMNIA62 Gaming Festival.

The fierce competition was played on Call of Duty: WWII and Luminosity managed to win with an upset over local fan favourites Splyce.

Team Luminosity’s Johnathan “John” Perez was ecstatic with the win, saying afterwards;

Winning Birmingham means a lot to me. After Atlanta we really decided to show up here and win this.

When he refers to Atlanta, Perez is talking about Luminosity’s win over OpTic Gaming put them in the winners bracket and one step closer to the grand finals. 

Defeating Rise Nation at CWL Birmingham means that Luminosity will now play the winner of a battle between Rise Nation and the winner of a match between OpTic and Splyce.

The final rankings for the CWL Birmingham Open are;

  • 1st – Luminosity
  • 2nd – Splyce
  • 3rd – Rise Nation
  • 4th – OpTic Gaming
  • 5th/6th – Reckless / Team Envy
  • 7th/8th – Echo Fox / Lightning Pandas

The Call of Duty World League heads back to the USA this weekend. The CWL Pro League Stage 1 finals will kick off in Columbus, Ohio on April 6-8.  A prize pool of $500,000 USD is up for grabs. 

On April 20-22 the CWL Seattle Open will take place with tickets to the event on sale now
