Spyro remaster reported to be launching for PS4 in 2018

There have been reports today that Activision is planning a PS4 Spyro remaster. Following the success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Activision is rumoured to be on the verge of announcing the PS4 Spyro remaster.

The PS4 Spyro remaster will be in the same vein as Crash Bandicoot and will include the first three Spyro the Dragon games, remastered as a trilogy. Set to be announced in March 2018 with a Q3 2018 release window, the PS4 Spyro remaster will include all-new assets, lighting, animations and cinematics.

PS4 Spyro Remaster

Multiple sources who have confirmed details of the project told Kotaku that the PS4 Spyro remaster would include the original game, Ripto’s Rage! and Year of the Dragon.

There were also hints to there being additional content included in the remaster that was originally cut from release.

It’s reported that the PS4 Spyro remaster will be available for PS4 with PS4 Pro support later in 2018. One rumoured launch date puts the PS4 Spyro remaster on store shelves in September. September 2018 is Spyro’s 20th anniversary, so it would make sense from a nostalgic perspective.

Like the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the PS4 Spyro remaster would also be a timed-exclusive with other platforms seeing a release in 2019.

The remaster is reported to be underway at Vicarious Visions who also developed the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

Spyro has largely been absent from games in recent years aside from cameos in a few Skylanders titles. It’d certainly be nice to be able to play those great platformers again, especially with the power of the PS4 behind them.

More as we have it.
