Overwatch: Is the new hero going to be Doomfist? Greek hero denied

The Overwatch community has been geared up for a new hero for a while, with all signs (and hopes) pointing to Doomfist. But, is the new hero going to be Doomfist?

A post by Game Director Jeff Kaplan on the game’s official forums suggests the answer is no.

“24 is not who you think it is,” wrote Kaplan; 24 meaning Overwatch’s 24th hero character. It’s assumed that Kaplan’s statement refers to Doomfist based on recent hype and rumours.

Kaplan expanded on his comment and explained;

We’re always asking ourselves ‘what would make the biggest impact for the most people’ when we prioritise. Right now, we feel like introducing a new hero to the line-up would be more impactful to the game. Hope that makes sense.

The most recent addition to Overwatch — Sombra — was released on November 15, 2017. Her predecessor Ana was made available July 22, 2016. Overwatch was released in May 2016, Ana followed two months later and Sombra three months after that.

If Not Doomfist Then Who?

It’s been three months since Sombra joined the Overwatch roster, so a new hero is imminent. The Overwatch community are masters of uncovering information and recently discovered an IMDB profile for a voice actor linked to the game.

The profile for Alex Malaos listed a character named ‘Greek.’ Along with Kaplan’s comments this sent the community into a frenzy. However, a member of the community reached out to Malaos who denied he was playing a hero character.

Instead, Malaos said that he had recorded generic voice lines in Greek, “Like stuff you would hear from a walkie-talkie.” That’s not to say that the idea of a Greek hero is dead. Just that Malaos isn’t saying anything and neither is Blizzard.

If the 24th hero isn’t Doomfist or the mysterious Greek character, then your guess is as good as ours. We probably won’t have to wait much longer though and hopefully some news is revealed sooner or later.

Overwatch is available now.
