Help Cure Cancer at the Sonic State of Origins Plus Clash at Fortress Sydney

Five Star Games has teamed up with Sega, Fortress Sydney, AusSpeedruns, Cure Cancer and Game On Cancer to celebrate Sonic’s 32nd birthday and the launch of Sonic Origins Plus. The Sonic State of Origin Plus Clash will take place at Fortress Sydney on Friday, 23 June 2023 and will see Australia’s best Sonic the Hedgehog speedrunners face off live.

All parties involved are donating proceeds to Cure Cancer via its gaming arm; Game on Cancer. “Game On Cancer brings together the gaming community to support early-career cancer researchers working across all cancers and areas of cancer research.”

The Sonic State of Origins Plus Clash will be livestreamed on the /AusSpeedruns Twitch channel for those who can’t make it to Fortress Sydney on the night.

Ethan Levy, co-ordinator at AusSpeedruns said, “AusSpeedruns is proud to partner with Five Star Games to put on this exciting new Sonic State of Origins Plus event for all Australians. We’ve got the fastest and most incredible Sonic the Hedgehog speedrunners in our community, and they’ll be going head-to-head on the 23rd of June in the arena; at the same time raising money for Game on Cancer, a wonderful cause!”

As a State of Origin, the clash will be between NSW and QLD with the Queenslanders wearing red jerseys per the colour of their mascot; Knuckles. The QLD team Raikou (c), Stylonide & The8bitbeast will be squaring off against the NSW in blue (representing Sonic) and will play the team of team of Werster (c), 3Pills and LaceyStripes.

Shane Bailey, Head of Gaming & Streaming at Cure Caner said, “We’re honoured to be partnered with AusSpeedruns as their charity of choice, and to see a new speedrunning competition come to Australia – from the original speedster himself, no less – is simply wonderful.”

The Sonic State of Origins Plus Clash will consist of eight events “in a point-scoring extravaganza itself designed by famed Sonic the Hedgehog speedrunner and captain of Team Sonic, Werster.” The winning team will walk away the fastest in Australia and take with them the new Sonic State of Origins Plus shield.

Tickets to the event are available from Eventbrite for $10 and will be available until sold out.
