Overwatch League 2020 season realises the League’s city-based vision

The Overwatch League 2020 season kicked off with a bang over the weekend. Packed stadiums in both Dallas and New York City hosted 10 of the 20 teams and, for the first time, the Overwatch League realised its city-based model. From the outset, the Overwatch League planned to have teams compete in their regions and their towns in front of their fans.

In week one of the 2020 competition, New York Excelsior hosted Boston Uprising, London Spitfire, Paris Eternal and Toronto Defiant at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan.

The Arlington Esports Stadium and Dallas Fuel hosted Los Angeles Gladiators, Los Angeles Valiant, Vancouver Titans and San Francisco Shock. Fans not able to attend either venue were able to tune in via YouTube as the exclusive streaming partner for Activision Blizzard esports.

In New York City, thousands of attendees came together to shake the 114-year old venue to its foundations and in Dallas, the stadium was awash in Fuel colours. It was clear who the fans were there to see.
