Destiny 2’s Season of Dawn begins on December 10, Bungie details what to expect

The Vex Offensive has come to an end and the Season of the Undying will make way for the Season of Dawn on December 10, 2019. Bungie recently detailed what Guardians can expect when Season of Dawn launches and unveiled the new content in a 45-minute livestream (below). In Season of Dawn, Guardians will need to travel back to Mercury and assist Osiris.

With the Vex Invasion now defeated, Osiris calls upon you to face a new threat. Stop a council of Cabal Psion Flayers from manipulating time and undoing our victory against the Red Legion.

While Destiny 2: New Light remains free to play and those who don’t purchase the Season of Dawn Season Pass will be able to access some content, the major, story-based content requires a Season Pass.

Season of Dawn

New activities and content that requires a Season Pass include the six-player Sundial Activity, new weapons and the story of this new season. The Sundial is “an all-new 6-player matchmade activity” that requires Guardians to defend the Sundial from the Cabal.

Players will also be able to choose the weapons they want to unlock by “completing Timelost weapon frames.”

As with Season of the Undying, Season of Dawn features a Seasonal Rank Rewards path. The path again includes free and premium rewards and you can see all 100 ranks of rewards in the gallery below.

The Artifact for Season of Dawn is The Lantern of Osiris. Like the Gate Lord’s Eye, players are able to level up the Lantern to increase their power level and unlock special Seasonal gameplay mods.

The Lantern of Osiris is available to all Destiny 2 players.

Bungie has clearly laid out what players with and without a Season Pass will have access to in Season of Dawn.

Season Pass holders can access the following;

  • Instantly unlock the Exotic Scout Rifle, Symmetry
  • Play the new 6-player activity: The Sundial
  • Exotic Quests, Seasonal Armor Sets, and Ornaments
  • New Triumphs, Bounties, and Seasonal Lore Books
  • Exotic Emote, Ghost, Ornament, and Finisher
  • Additional Season Pass rewards to unlock

All Destiny 2 players, with or without a Season Pass can access;

  • Free Seasonal Rank Rewards
  • Seasonal Artifact: The Lantern of Osiris
  • Help Osiris fix the timeline by restoring Obelisks on four destinations
  • Unlock the Seasonal Armor Set: Righteous
  • Progress through Season ranks to earn the Exotic Scout Rifle, Symmetry

Bungie has also released the Season 9 Calendar for Destiny 2 and given fans a roadmap of content they can expect over the coming months. This includes free and premium content and dates for the updated instances of the new Sundial activity.

Season 9 will also include Iron Banner, The Dawning event and Crimson Days.

The next three months of Destiny 2 looks to be feature-packed and full of things for Guardians to do. Even if you don’t purchase a Season Pass, Season of Dawn includes plenty of activities for you and plenty of Destiny 2 action.

Season of Dawn begins on December 10 at weekly reset and runs until March 9, 2020.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
