Classic Cel-Shaded FPS XIII is Getting a Remake

Remember that cel-shaded FPS on PS2 that starred David Duchovny as an amnesiac soldier? Well, if you don’t it was called XIII and now, it’s been announced that PlayMagic Ltd is developing a XIII remake.

Aside from what we know about the original game, not much is known about the XIII remake other than it’s in production.

Writing on a PlayStation Blog post, Microids Head of Production, François Coulon said that the idea for the remake ” came naturally, as we felt this unique kind of story-driven FPS experience was missing in today’s gaming landscape.”

XIII Remake

Based on the Belgian graphic novel of the same nameXIII sees the main character awaken on a beach with no memory of who they are. The only clues are a key and a tattoo of XIII. Wanted for the assassination of the President of the United States, XIII finds himself in a fight for his life.

In this XIII remake;

It’s now your job to search for answers through a 34-level solo campaign. Don’t worry, you will find the appropriate weapon arsenal along the way. So many questions… so many bullets!

When it was originally released in 2003 on PS2, it was a minor hit thanks to the cel-shaded visuals and narrative FPS gameplay. Coulon writes of the remake;

Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animation. The result will be nothing short of spectacular as we promise to celebrate the amazing work done on the original game.

We only have a short teaser for the game (below) for now and we know that it is being released for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One on November 13, 2019.
