Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers has two new playable races

Earlier this year, when Shadowbringers information was coming out of the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Paris, it was revealed that a new playable race would be added to the game.

The Viera, from Ivalice (Final Fantasy XII), are the Playboy Bunnies of the Final Fantasy universe. They were announced as the new playable race for the expansion, however, only female Viera were shown at the time.

Speculation was rife on whether or not male Viera would appear in the expansion and today, at Final Fantasy Fan Festival Tokyo it was revealed that only female Viera would be playable.

Final Fantasy 14 Hrothgar & Viera

That doesn’t mean there won’t be new boys to play with though. Today, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida announced the second playable race coming to Shadowbringers; Hrothgar.

The Hrothgar are burly, feline barbarians. They come in a range of colours and styles and some even have horns! They are also known as Ronso in Norvrandt.

Ronso appeared in Final Fantasy X and come from Spira.

That makes two new playable races for Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers expansion; Hrothgar and Viera. The Viera are female only and the Hrothgar are male only.

While players may be disappointed that there aren’t male Viera or female Hrothgar, it makes sense for the art style, aesthetics and the lore.

The two new playable races give Final Fantasy 14 players some new stuff to try and bring in two classic Final Fantasy races.

Which race are you most excited for in Final Fantasy 14; Hrothgar or Viera?
