There are no female zombies in Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Rebellion’s fourth entry in the Zombie Army series, Zombie Army 4: Dead War is launching next month. Recently, I was able to sit down with Vicky Boyce, Senior Systems Designer to chat about the game, the development and what players can expect. During my hands-on with the game, I noticed that there were no female enemies in the game. While there are two female playable characters, the lack of female enemies struck me as odd.

So I asked Boyce about their absence.

She told me that “It goes between what you’d like to see personally what’s historically accurate. Though, this is a Nazi Zombie game so how accurate do you want to be?”

She added that she personally can’t see any problems with introducing female Nazi Zombies into Zombie Army 4 and that it’s something worth thinking about. However, if any new zombies or enemies were to be added into the game, it would be a discussion for the leads and the directors.

The fact that there are playable female characters in Zombie Army 4 puts the game ahead of others in recent memory. Assassin’s Creed Unity is an infamous example, with Ubisoft, at the time, citing too much additional work to add female playable characters.

Thankfully, Rebellion isn’t stopping players from playing as female characters.

The lack of female Nazi Zombies is a minor one but their absence from the game was noticeable. Thankfully, it doesn’t stop you from enjoying sending them back to hell.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on February 4, 2020.
