Rocket League December Update brings Enhanced Xbox One X Support

Psyonix has detailed the Rocket League December update. The meat of the update is the Xbox One X support, but the December update also brings quality of life improvements and more.

Set to be released on all platforms on December 3, the Rocket League December Update will also see the release of Rocket League x Monstercat Vol. 5.

Psyonix Game Director Scott Rudi and Graphics Engineer Art Mata spoke with Inside Xbox about the enhancements and what they mean for Rocket League on Xbox One X going forward.

Rocket League December Update

Rudi told Inside Xbox that when the Rocket League December Update goes live, the game will display in native 4K at 60 frames per second on Xbox One X. It will also support HDR on compatible TVs.

According to Rudi, the gameplay won’t be affected by the changes as Psyonix is conscious of maintaining a level playing field for all players regardless of display settings. Mata added;

4K will provide unparalleled detail which normally can’t be seen in 1080p, giving us a much more crisp image, while HDR means we’ll be seeing more detail in bright and dark areas of the game, giving a much richer feel to the colors in the world.

Overall, the result on Xbox One X is that the game looks much clearer. Couple that with the 60 frames per second Rocket League is known for and this all leads to a much smoother, more immersive, high octane play experience.

Rudi also believes fans will be “blown away” once they see Rocket League running on Xbox One X.

Other changes/additions coming with the December update include;

  • Leaderboards for Ranked Extra Modes
  • Changes to XP/Progression
  • Rocket League x Monstercat Vol. 5
  • New Community Flags

Rocket League is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

The December Update will be live at 5 am December 4 AEDT (10 am December 3 PST).
