Onimusha Warlords Remaster is coming in 2019

Capcom is bringing Onimusha Warlords back for another stab. First released in 2001 for PS2, the Onimusha Warlords remaster will be released for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One in 2019.

Coming to all platforms digitally, Onimusha Warlords will also be available physically for PS4 and Xbox One.

The remaster will be a faithful version of the game, but will also include all-new features to help bring the game into the current generation.

New features included in the Onimusha Warlords remaster are;

  • High-definition graphics
  • Widescreen display option
  • Analogue stick support
  • Easy Mode
  • New soundtrack

Like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil on PS4, Onimusha Warlords will be controllable with the analogue stick. However, fans will still be able to use the classic directional inputs if they prefer.

According to Andy Wong, Capcom’s Community Manager;

In this version, Easy Mode is unlocked from the start of the game for players who may find the adventure too difficult or want to enjoy the story. In Easy Mode, enemies are easier to kill and appear less often. However, you cannot change difficulty once you begin, so select wisely!

Being a 17-year old game, Onimusha Warlords obviously doesn’t look anywhere near what you’d expect from a game released in 2019. In the screenshots, below, you can see a marked improvement from the original PS2 release though.

Set in feudal Japan, Onimusha Warlords follows the story of samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede who are trying to save Princess Yuki from hordes of demons. Using sword-based combat, magic and the obligatory, obtuse Capcom puzzle, Onimusha Warlords will require players to use both brains and muscle.

Onimusha Warlords will release for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One on January 15, 2019.
