Magic the Gathering and D&D crossover Guildemasters’ Guide to Ravnica leaked by Amazon

It looks like Amazon may have leaked an upcoming Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering crossover; Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica.

Both games are owned by Wizards of the Coast and occasionally Wizards release D&D supplements called Plane Shifts. These have been short documents that lightly detail a world in the MTG universe and how to adapt D&D to it.

This leak is something altogether different though. It represents an all-new setting and brand-new adventures for Dungeons & Dragons fans.

Guide to Ravnica

The Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica is a campaign sourcebook, making it the first full campaign setting book since The Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide. It will also be the first set outside of the Forgotten Realms for 5th edition.

Amazon’s description of the Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica gives us a brief glimpse into the new setting;

A perpetual haze of dreary rain hangs over the spires of Ravnica. Bundled against the weather, the cosmopolitan citizens in all their fantastic diversity go about their daily business in bustling markets and shadowy back alleys.

Through it all, ten guilds–crime syndicates, scientific institutions, church hierarchies, military forces, judicial courts, buzzing swarms, and rampaging gangs–vie for power, wealth, and influence. These guilds are the foundation of power on Ravnica.

They have existed for millennia, and each one has its own identity and civic function, its own diverse collection of races and creatures, and its own distinct subculture. Their history is a web of wars, intrigue, and political machinations as they have vied for control of the plane.

There is a lot of pre-existing lore around Ravnica that Wizards of the Coast has to draw on. Magic the Gathering has been to the setting several times, each time expanding the lore and story surrounding the City of Guilds. I can see how it could make for a compelling setting for a D&D campaign with lots of potential for political intrigue in a large city brimming with dim alleys, cutthroats and mercenaries.

It’s interesting that Wizards of the Coast might have chosen Ravnica as the next campaign setting to release. There are a lot of fans of older editions desperately wanting to see updated releases of previous settings such as Dark-sun and Eberron. Hopefully, this leak will see an official announcement with more details very soon.

According to the Amazon listing, the Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica is scheduled for release on November 20, 2018.

Games have always been a big part of my life in all types of formats. I'm just as happy with a deck of cards or a bunch of miniatures as I am with a keyboard and mouse or controller. Any game where there is a little teamwork happening is usually going be my favourite. I'm very partial to a good RTS, RPG or FPS session with friends, a beer and some decent music.
