London Spitfire wins Overwatch League’s first Stage Finals

Over the weekend the Overwatch League’s Stage 1 Finals were held. The three top-seeded teams — London Spitfire, New York Excelsior and Houston Outlaws — battled for supremacy and a share of $125,000 USD. At the end of the day, London Spitfire was crowned winners wth New York Excelsior taking out second place.

The Stage finals took place in front of a sold-out crowd at the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles. Sunday’s regularly scheduled three-game slate were played prior to the Stage Finals. The final standings placed New York Excelsior at the top of the leaderboard, Houston Outlaws in second seed and London Spitfire in the third-seeded position.

The London Spitfire defeated the Houston Outlaws 3-1 in a thrilling match before moving onto the game against New York.

After losing two straight rounds to the New York Excelsior, the London Spitfire managed a courageous comeback to steal the Stage Finals 3-2. The London Spitfire’s win of Overwatch League’s first Stage Finals nets them a $100,000 USD bonus. The New York Excelsior will walk away with a $25,000 USD bonus.

With the Overwatch League’s Stage 1 Finals now complete the teams will take a break before Stage 2 commences. Overwatch League’s second stage kicks off on February 22 AEDT. The standings and records are reset before each new round, but overall rankings carry over to the end-of-season playoff stage.
