Overwatch’s Year of the Dog event is live, new skins, emotes and more

Overwatch’s Lunar New Year event — Year of the Dog — is now live. Thanks to the most recent Developer Update we already knew we were getting a Mercy and Genji skin and a new map. Now that the event is live we are happy to show off the Overwatch Year of the Dog skins. In addition to the Overwatch Year of the Dog skins, there are new sprays, emotes, voice lines and player icons.

Let’s jump in.

Overwatch Year of the Dog Skins

As already discussed, Game Director Jeff Kaplan let slip that we’d see new skins for both Mercy and Genji. Now that the event is live we finally get a look at all of the new Overwatch Year of the Dog skins.

Mcree, Widowmaker, Zarya and Pharah each got a new skin in addition to Mercy and Genji. Four of the new skins are based on the four symbols of Chinese constellations.

Red Phoenix (Zhu Que) Mercy, Black Tortoise (Xuan Wu) Zarya, White Tiger (Bai Hu) Genji, Blue Dragon (Qinglong) Pharah, Black Lily Windowmaker and Magistrate Mcree.

Emotes

When Orisa was given the puppy emote in the Winter Wonderland event, the Overwatch community lost its collective mind. We’re willing to bet that the same thing is going to happen with Roadhog’s brand-new emote.

Doomfist fans might be disappointed that the big man once again seems to have missed out, but maybe his emote might cheer you up a little.

Highlight Intros

It wouldn’t be a special-timed event in Overwatch without a great new Highlight intro. The Year of the Dog Highlight Intro stars Mcree doing his best “cool guys don’t look at explosions” impression.

As with all Overwatch events, there are also Player Icons, Sprays and Voice Lines to be unlocked and collected. This year, the Year of the Dog event will run for an entire month and will also include a special competitive season of Capture the Flag.

The Overwatch Year of the Dog skins, Emotes, Highlight Intro and all other cosmetics are live now.

Overwatch is available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
