Five titles we want to see from Marvel & Square Enix

With Marvel and Square Enix’s announcement today, I had a thought about the top five games I’d like to see come out of the deal.

Let’s take a look.

5. Jessica Jones

The perfect development partner for a Jessica Jones game would be DONTNOD. It proved it could produce engaging, episodic content with Life is Strange and Jessica Jones’ noir style would perfectly suit an episodic adventure game.

If it was successful, Square Enix could take the lead from Netflix and explore games featuring the other Defenders; Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist.

Telltale has proved time and time again that adventure games can include action alongside adventure, take Batman for example. An episodic title would also help maintain interest in a Marvel Video Game Universe in the same way that Netflix and Terrestrial TV shows do in between the movies.

4. Doctor Strange

One of Marvel’s stranger (no pun intended) and more mystical heroes, Dr. Strange would be a perfect vehicle for a game. Considering his facial hair, it would have to be developed by Eidos Montreal.

The title could explore the history of Kamar-Taj and the Ancient One. Strange would travel between Sanctums and protect earth from Dormammu and the Dark Dimension. An action-RPG in a similar vein to that of Deus Ex would also be a perfect fit, though it would likely need to be in 3rd person.

Not being one of Marvel’s big hitters means that any game featuring Strange wouldn’t be as restricted in terms of content, or design.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy

This one’s a no-brainer. Marvel’s coolest bunch of weirdos needs to have its own game.

Developed by Square Enix internally, imagine a Guardians of the Galaxy that plays like Final Fantasy. Not the newer Final Fantasy titles, I’m talking Old School, VII, VIII and IX. Turn based, world map exploration and airships.

Star-Lord would choose his party members and explore the Galaxy in the Milano, searching for his father and getting caught up in something much bigger along the way.

Rocket and Groot would of course count as only party member. How could you resist?

2. Ant-Man

There just isn’t enough good heist games. We’re talking full on, capers with comedy.

The Ant-Man game could be developed by IO Interactive of course and Scott Lang would be the star. Ant-Man can exist in the moral grey area (like Iron Man) that the likes of Captain America never could.

The size shifting mechanic has appeared in games in the past, but not as anything more than a gimmick or passing puzzle solving element. Ant-Man’s ability to shrink and grow is integral to his fighting style. If it was designed well it could be pretty amazing and a huge shift away from the standard Batman: Arkham combat.

1. Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four have had a hard run lately. Their first movie wasn’t terrible, but the follow-up was bad. The reboot was…well the less said about that piece of crap the better.

What better way to redeem themselves than a game that showcases each of their unique talents, abilities and personalities. An open world title set in New York would allow players to explore a huge range of different locations thanks to the team’s powers.

Think a LEGO game, but much more complex and story driven. Swapping characters on the fly would be a must as would co-op.

You’d never get me to stop shouting, “IT’S CLOBBERING TIME!”

What games would you like to see come out of this announcement?
