Overwatch – Competitive Play Season 4 starts today and the Game Browser is live

Overwatch’s 3rd season of competitive play only just finished up and Season 4 has already kicked off.

Competitive Play Season 4

Starting today, Season 4 commences in much the same way as those before it. Players will be required to take part in 10 placement matches to determine their Skill Ranking. Matchmaking Rankings from previous seasons will carry over though.

Some players may find themselves having to work their way up from a low bracket if they were previously forced down by tough placement matches or didn’t complete all 10.

Competitive Play is the only way to earn Competitive Points. CP can be used to purchase Golden Skins for hero’s weapons. The Golden Skin doesn’t improve the weapon, but it does let your teammates and opponents know that you’ve done exceptionally well in Competitive Play.

At the conclusion of Season 4, players will be awarded CP based on their ranking. These are as follows;

  • SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP
  • SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP
  • SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP
  • SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP
  • SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP
  • SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP
  • SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

Overwatch Game Browser

Along with the beginning of Season 4, Blizzard announced today that it had launched the Overwatch Game Browser on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The Game Browser allows players to create their very own custom Overwatch experience. An extension of the Custom Game Mode it allows players to customise the rules and share their games with everyone.

Changes that players can make are incredibly powerful. Each individual hero’s health, abilities, movement speed, damage and more can be adjusted. As Blizzard suggests;

If you want to increase Pharah’s rocket speed or remove the cooldown from McCree’s Combat Roll, those options are at your fingertips. If you’d like to create an Ilios-only map rotation or remove a specific hero from players’ options, the power is yours.

There are also defaults available, many of which have already been presented as Brawls. Also included are Capture the Flag maps which includes every control point on Ilios, Lijiang Tower, Nepal and Oasis.

Once a custom game mode has been created, players can set up sharing and permissions. A game can be set to Public, Friends or Invite Only. Those who aren’t interested in creating can simply select ‘Find Game’ from the Arcade.

The Game Browser is a hugely powerful tool for Overwatch players and opens up so many possibilities. Endless match types, game modes and Brawls can be created and finding the perfect balance is likely to become quite the pastime.

Blizzard has stated that it will continue working on features and options for the Game Browser to give players even more control.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
