Best Buy Canada’s removed Skyrim for Switch listing called it the Special Edition

Best Buy in Canada was, until recently, listing Skyrim for Nintendo Switch and calling it the Special Edition.

The listing has since been removed, but you can see a cached version here. The product description read;

Experience Skyrim like you never have before with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch. It features remastered graphics and visuals so the game looks better than ever, and gives you the gameplay freedom you’ve come to expect from The Elder Scrolls series.

Skyrim, remastered

  • This Special Edition of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been remastered and enhanced for the current generation of home consoles
  • Visual and graphical enhancements include remastered game art, effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections, and more
  • The Special Edition also brings PC-like mod support to the game, so you can continually refresh your experience with new quests, environments, characters, dialogue, armour, and weapons

Freedom of choice

  • Enter the world of Tamriel and play as any type of character you want, from a sword-wielding knight to a spellcasting mage
  • Select from hundreds of different weapons, abilities, and spells to customize your character and your character’s development

Civil war

  • Immerse yourself in an epic single-player storyline, in which 2 powerful factions are embroiled in deadly civil war
  • Navigate a misty and mysterious landscape that’s teeming with complex characters, unique townships, and countless side quests
  • Battle massive dragons and — as a Dragonborn invidiual — learn how to harness the power of dragons for your own uses
  • Winner of more than 200 Game of the Year Awards, Skyrim Special Edition brings the epic fantasy to life in stunning detail.
  • The Special Edition includes the critically acclaimed game and add-ons with all-new features like remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections, and more.

The description above is the exact same description used for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, so it’s likely that is was simply copy/pasted.

Ever since it was announced, speculation has surrounded Skyrim on Switch as to whether it would be the last-gen version or the remaster. Both Bethesda and Nintendo have remained quiet, but fans are understandably curious. Knowing which version is coming to the new console would give some indication of the power of Switch and the ability for it to play other 3rd-party titles coming out in the future.

We already know that Resident Evil 7 and Mass Effect 3 are skipping Switch, let’s hope not too many more AAA titles give it a miss.

A release date for Skyrim on Switch has not been announced.
